Hello all.
What are your experiences with eith er of the 2 things listed in the subject of this topic? For some reason, I can't get either to work here, even though I'm using a color scanner. I'm not sure why. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help in advance!

Very well could be that your particular scanner manufacture has disabled there driver from scanning currency. Canon and epson have done this in many of there current scanner models.

K1000 and an Epson Perfection (4490 I believe) work well for this task. Currency is usually recognized within about ten to fifteen secs. Scott, I take it you have tried placing the currency in each of the four corners of the scanner in different orientations?

what kind of scanner you have? most 3-in-1 scanner/printer aint powerful enough to handle the scanning task. it is something to do with the picsel of the scann. try epson Perfection series, it should work.

I have a Cannon scanner, and have tried every which set of orienting the bill to the scanner with no success. I also tried it with my Epson scanner and got the same result, or lack there of. So I'm guessing that both of these scanners have barcode scanning disabled for money? There should be a way to reenable it, but I doubt there is.

Thanks for the help,
Scott

try to set your DPI on 1800 if your scanner can handle that. if not, try to set it at least 900 or 1200 or 1500, depends on what your scanner can handle. the normal DPI should be 300 for scanning document. setting high DPI will help to reckonize the details of the scann object. i've just try scanning a AU$ using epson P U1660, it work. the scann will take a long time, and the file will be huge, but, it should work. it should be under "custom setting" under one of the setting subheading.

good luck

Scott, you shouldn't have to mess with any of the scanner's DPI setting. I've used buck scan with openbook and kurzweil and never had a problem. Orientation wise, you don't need to try all four corners. As long as you know which corner is the top-right, because the top-left corner of the scanned paper would be facing down, money should be horizontal to the line of reading. That's all you need. Why bother with all four corners? Also, are you closing the lid when you scan? Sometimes, even a slight displacement of the bill would cause problems. Just hold the bill in place with one hand while issuing the scan command with your other hand. By now, you should be good at doing things with one hand while your other hand is on the keyboard. And by the way, you can always just mail me your money and I'd be happy to tell you what dominations they are.

Thanks Wes and Joanne. If I hold it in just the right place, sort of like my you know what stimulating a you know what else, it sort of works. LOL. I'd mail you all my money, but I suspect that somehow, I'd end up having all 1's returned to me. And typing with one hand? Only when I am chatting with my Little Smokey.
